Half a million COVID and flu jabs given in three months

NHS figures reveal 500,000 vaccinations have been administered across Suffolk and North East Essex since the campaign began in October, with community pharmacies hosting 1,700 walk-in clinics.

Why it matters: The vaccination campaign has helped protect residents' health through the winter months and reduced pressures on stretched local NHS services, with eligible people still able to access jabs through walk-in clinics or booked appointments.

By the numbers: Since October, there have been 386,000 flu jabs and 114,000 COVID jabs administered locally.

The details: Community pharmacies have been the backbone of the campaign, hosting 1,700 walk-in vaccination clinics during the three-month period.

COVID vaccinations during this current campaign are available until 31 January, while flu vaccinations remain available until 31 March. The local website www.sneevaccine.org.uk is regularly updated with walk-in clinic information and includes all the eligibility criteria.

What they're saying: Lucy Archer, who has been leading on the vaccination campaign for the NHS Suffolk and North East Essex Integrated Care Board, said: "Delivering half a million vaccinations to our local population in just three months is an incredible feat and I want to thank everyone who has taken up the offer of COVID and flu vaccination protection."

"Staff at community pharmacies, GP practices, hospitals and elsewhere have done such an amazing job and I want to thank them for their hard work."

She added: "And to those who are eligible but not yet vaccinated. Please take up the offer. We've still got a long way to go with the cold winter months, so please do all you can to best protect your own health and the health of your family, friends and community."

The bottom line: With 500,000 vaccinations delivered in three months, the local NHS campaign has made significant progress in protecting residents through winter, though eligible people who have not yet been vaccinated are encouraged to take up the offer before the campaigns end.
