Deesigner Hair celebrates 30 years at the Buttermarket Centre

One of Ipswich's longest-standing hair salons is marking three decades of service, with plans to remain for another 15 years after signing a new lease.

The details: Deesigner Hair opened its doors on 1 September 1995, making it one of Ipswich's longest-standing hair salons.

Owner Dee launched the salon after previously managing Supercuts in the Buttermarket Centre, seizing the opportunity when the chain relocated.

What they're saying: "It seemed like a natural progression to set up our own salon in the same location," she recalls.

"We could not have got this far without our fabulous team of staff or our wonderful customers, many of whom have become friends and part of the Deesigner Hair family," says Dee.

The salon has cultivated extraordinary staff retention, with over a dozen employees serving for more than 10 years and four staying for over 20 years. Two staff members, Lyndsie and Clare (known as Kirby), have been part of the salon family for 29 and 24 years respectively.

The bigger picture: Like many businesses, Deesigner Hair faced significant challenges during the past five years, particularly through the Covid-19 pandemic, which dramatically changed the industry. Despite these hurdles, the salon has persevered and is looking confidently toward the future.

What's next: The salon is about to sign a new 15-year lease to remain in the Buttermarket Centre.

"With the support of our staff, customers, and Rebecca and her team at the Buttermarket, we are looking forward to the next 15 years," Dee adds.

Rebecca Bird, Centre Manager at the Buttermarket, commented: "We are thrilled to celebrate 30 years of Deesigner Hair at the Buttermarket. Dee and her team have been an incredible part of our centre, and their dedication, professionalism, and community spirit are inspiring. We look forward to many more years of their success here."

The bottom line: Deesigner Hair's three-decade journey demonstrates how local businesses can thrive through dedication to staff and customers, with the salon now committed to serving the Ipswich community for another 15 years.
