Almost 60% of Ipswich School GCSE grades awarded at top level

Ipswich School celebrated GCSE results on Thursday, 22 August, with 139 students securing grades, including almost 60% of all grades awarded at 7-9.

Why it matters: Every student achieved grades 4-9 in at least five subjects, highlighting the consistency and breadth of achievement across the year group at Suffolk's top independent school.

The details: Well over half of the cohort – 74 students – secured grades 7, 8 or 9 (previously A*/A) in at least six subjects. The vast majority of students will continue into Ipswich Sixth Form, joining another part of the school the institution says is recognised for its "outstanding academic outcomes".

What they're saying: Reflecting on his first year as Head, Nick Gregory  said: "Right across the 2024/25 academic year, I have been delighted to discover an established culture in Year 11 of teacher-pupil collaboration, of regular advice and extra study support for those that need it most, and of individual subjects going above-and-beyond in the weeks and months before the 'exam season'."

Andrew Bradshaw, Head of Middle School, added: "This cohort has shown remarkable dedication. Their achievements reflect not only hard work, but also a collaborative spirit, resilience, and a vibrant commitment to co-curricular life, particularly in Drama, Music, and Sport."

The bottom line: Ipswich School has been named Suffolk's top independent school in The Sunday Times Schools Guide for the past nine years. The 2025 GCSE results demonstrate the school's continued academic performance, with consistent high achievement across all students, preparing them for success in the sixth form and beyond.
