A14 to close for two months near Ipswich for resurfacing work

A five-mile stretch of the A14 near Ipswich will be closed overnight for two months starting in late August. National Highways plans to resurface the road with noise-reducing asphalt.

The big picture: The closure will affect both directions of the A14 between junction 52 (Claydon) and junction 55 (Copdock Interchange) from 27 August to mid-October.

However, the carriageways will not be closed simultaneously.

Key details:

  • Closures will be in place from 8pm to 6am, weather permitting
  • The official diversion route is approximately 10 miles long
  • Traffic will be redirected through Sproughton village

Why it matters: This closure will impact commuters and residents who regularly use this stretch of the A14, potentially adding time to journeys during the affected hours.

Diversion route:

  • Eastbound: Exit at junction 52, travel along B1113 through Bramford and Sproughton, then A1071 and A1214 to rejoin A14 at Copdock Interchange
  • Westbound: Follow the same route in reverse

The bottom line: While the roadworks may cause short-term inconvenience, the new asphalt surface aims to reduce noise pollution for nearby residents in the long term.
