Thirty-plus acts set to take over Christchurch Park at Ipswich Music Day
Singer-songwriters, bands, soloists and DJs will descend on Christchurch Park on Sunday, 5 July, as Ipswich Music Day celebrates its 36th year with more than 30 performers.
Why it matters: Ipswich Music Day is billed as the largest free, one-day music festival in the UK. Organised by Ipswich Borough Council, the family-friendly event is free to attend and offers local and regional artists the chance to perform live in front of thousands of people.
The details: This year's event will feature six stages spread across Christchurch Park, covering a wide range of musical genres — from rock, indie and rap to jazz, acoustic and soul.
- The BBC Radio Suffolk Bowl Stage, hosted by Wayne Bavin near the Henley Road entrance, will feature BBC Introducing artists.
- The Crossroads Costa Stage, close to the Westerfield entrance, will run from 12:00 to 19:30.
- The Rise Suffolk Sound Stage, next to the playground, is dedicated to rock and indie music.
- The Pond Stage, in the heart of the park, will present indie, rap, R&B and DJs, and will host the winner of Suffolk One's Battle of the Bands competition.
- The Mansion Grapevine Stage, next to the marketplace, will feature acoustic and jazz artists and soul groups.
What they're saying: Council Leader Councillor Neil MacDonald said: "Ipswich Music Day is a brilliant celebration of music, culture and local talent. We received so many outstanding entries to perform at this year's event, and we'd like to thank everybody who applied.
"This year's event promises to be more diverse than ever, so we're looking forward to showcasing some really exciting and talented artists and bands. Once again, audiences can prepare for a great day out as Christchurch Park comes alive with the sound of music, fun, and entertainment."
