The details: According to police, a man in his 40s was walking along the road when it is reported he was approached by a man who got out of a car, swore at him, and used a knife to skim across his t-shirt, causing it to tear. It is also reported that a piece of the victim's hair was cut in the incident, a spokesperson for Suffolk Police said. No arrests have been made.

What a friend of the alleged victim says: A friend of the alleged victim, writing on Facebook, claimed the man was using a walking frame at the time of the reported attack. She alleged the passenger of a car got out and subjected the victim to verbal abuse before reportedly producing a large machete or machete-style knife. According to the friend, the attacker allegedly cut the man's hair and directed the knife at his torso, though the victim reportedly managed to flee. She claimed the driver of the car then called the attacker back before the vehicle sped away.

On social media: The post has generated widespread reaction online, with many expressing shock that such an incident could have occurred in a quiet rural village. A number of people questioned why police failed to publicly appeal for witnesses, given the serious nature of the reported attack, while others urged residents to check doorbell and dash camera footage. Some commenters expressed scepticism about the account given the absence of a public police appeal at the time of the post, though police have since confirmed to Ipswich.co.uk that they are investigating.

The bottom line: Police have confirmed they are investigating a reported incident, but no arrests have been made. Officers are appealing for witnesses, including anyone driving in the area at the time who may have dash camera footage. Anyone with information is asked to contact Suffolk Police quoting crime reference 37/21068/26.
