the Why it matters: Winning a national title at the under-14 level is a significant milestone for the club, which Ipswich Sports Club says reflects the strength of its junior player development and the depth of talent coming through its pathway.

The details: The squad secured the title on Sunday, 12 April at the national finals held at Nottingham Hockey Centre, competing against the strongest teams from across the country.

  • In the final, Ipswich faced Rugby & East Warwickshire Hockey Club.
  • The match finished 1–1 in normal time.
  • Ipswich won the decisive shootout to claim the title.

Strong Ipswich School presence: Involved on the day were Ipswich School Year 9 pupils Freya, Lottie, Lauren and Eva, along with Year 8 pupil Kitty, who all played in the final. Year 9 pupil Sophie also contributed during earlier rounds of the competition but was on holiday for the final.

What they're saying: Emily Ison, sports manager at Ipswich Sports Club, credited the coaching team for the achievement.

"Credit to the hockey coaches Peter Wright and Pete Bale, whose structured approach and player development have been central to this success," she said. "Their work over recent seasons has helped build a cohesive, competitive group capable of delivering results on the national stage."

She added, "The success of this squad also underlines the depth of talent within Ipswich Sports Club. Fielding multiple teams at this age group, alongside a strong player pathway from younger sections, ensures continued progression and sustainability at a high level."

The bigger picture: Ipswich Sports Club says the result reflects the consistency and commitment shown by the squad throughout the season, with high standards in training translating into strong performances against top-tier opposition.

The bottom line: A national title at the under-14 level is a clear marker of the calibre of players and coaching coming through at Ipswich Hockey Club.
