Phil Jackson, described by Plunger Music as a "mercurial muso," has released his new song Ipswich Town on all major streaming platforms and via his Bandcamp shop.

To celebrate the release, Jackson has organised a free event — dubbed "Celebrate Ipswich Town" day — at the Crafty Fox Cafe & Bar on The Walk, starting at 18:00 on Friday, 5 June.

The details: The evening will feature local DJs The Pooter Boys, local singer-songwriter Charlie Law, and Ipswich storytellers Bards Aloud, alongside Jackson and friends performing live. The night will also include a charity auction, with proceeds going to local community charity Dora Brown, featuring items connected to Ipswich Town FC.

What they're saying: Jackson said the song is "a love letter" to his hometown, adding: "We are christening the day 'Celebrate Ipswich Town' day — an event to spread the Ipswich love."

The bigger picture: Ipswich Town is not the only recent musical tribute to the town. Local singer-songwriter Neil Hawes recently released Chantry Boy, described as a nostalgic, hyper-local indie folk track celebrating life on the Chantry estate, referencing local landmarks including Hawthorne Drive, Bellstead Arms, top shops and bottom shops.

The bottom line: Whether you're a lifelong local or a recent arrival, tonight's free event at the Crafty Fox offers an evening of live music, storytelling and community spirit — all in honour of Ipswich itself.
