Ipswich learning centre gets new Museum Street home
Eastern Education Group's Ipswich Learning Centre is moving to Fraser House on Museum Street, as the adult education provider prepares to launch a new course programme in September.
Why it matters: The relocation puts the learning centre in the heart of the town, with the aim of making adult education more accessible and visible to Ipswich residents. The timing is significant, with the number of young people in the UK not in education, employment or training (NEET) having surpassed one million for the first time in over a decade.
The big picture: Eastern Education Group is one of East Anglia's leading education providers, operating three Ofsted Outstanding colleges, along with primary schools, SEND schools, and a network of adult learning centres across Suffolk, Norfolk, and Cambridgeshire.
The Ipswich Learning Centre has been a fixture in the town since 2012, supporting thousands of adult learners into new skills, qualifications, and careers.
What they're saying: Laraine Moody, group principal for university and professional development at Eastern Education Group, said: "The NEET figures are a stark reminder of how many people are searching for a way forward, and education is so often the answer.
"Moving into the heart of Ipswich means we can reach even more of those people, removing the barriers that so often stop adults from taking that first step. And to anyone who feels nervous about returning to learning; please don't be. You'll find a dedicated team who've been on this journey with countless people just like you, and a community of fellow learners who'll make the experience far more rewarding than you might expect."
Student Anna Swiader, 47, from Ipswich, said: "Studying here has absolutely helped me in my life, and the team here are really, really supportive. The atmosphere is lovely, friendly and amazing. Coming here has helped me settle in the UK and it has helped me get jobs."
The details: Jools Windermere, head of the Ipswich Learning Centre, said: “We have had a presence in the town for well over ten years and we now have something right in the heart of Ipswich, close to the bus stations with car parks close by – so we are very accessible."
When the centre opens in September, it will offer courses for anyone aged 19 and over, including maths and English, digital skills, English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL), and floristry. A range of leisure learning courses is also being developed, covering topics from beaded jewellery to setting up your own business.
Courses will be available daytime, evenings, part-time, full-time, and online, with new intakes starting at various points throughout the year.
What's next: Workshops will run throughout the summer ahead of the full course programme launching in September 2026.
The bottom line: After more than a decade supporting adult learners in Ipswich, the learning centre is moving into the town centre with a renewed ambition to reach more people.
