Ipswich bus fares to rise from 19 July
Ipswich Buses will increase adult and under-20 town fares from Sunday, 19 July, with the single ticket price rising by 10p and the day ticket by 20p.
Why it matters: The changes will affect thousands of regular bus users across the town, with rising fuel and operating costs cited as the reason behind the increase.
The details: From 19 July, the following changes apply:
- Adult Town Single: up 10p, from £2.30 to £2.40
- Adult Town Day: up 20p, from £4.40 to £4.60
- U20 Town Single: up 10p
- U20 Town Day: up 20p
- Town Family Ticket: no change to the on-bus price; the app price rises by £1, from £9 to £10, to bring it in line
- Adult Network Single, Adult Network Day, U20 Network Day and the Network Family Ticket: no change
Ipswich Buses said prices for travel passes are being aligned across its mobile app and smartcard platform, where the same tickets apply, to create "greater consistency and simplicity for customers."
What they're saying: Dan Bassett, managing director of Ipswich Buses, said: "We are committed to keeping our fares as affordable and straightforward as possible while ensuring we can continue providing the reliable bus services that our communities depend on.
"This is a targeted review rather than a major overhaul of our fare structure. We've focused on keeping increases to commonly used tickets as low as possible and continue to provide great value through our day tickets, multi-journey bundles and travel passes.
"These changes help support the long-term sustainability of local bus services."
The bottom line: Most Ipswich Buses fares are staying the same, but anyone paying for a single or day ticket will notice a small increase from 19 July.
