Free HIV and syphilis testing kits available in Suffolk
Residents of Suffolk aged 16 and over can now order free, confidential at-home HIV and syphilis testing kits, as part of a public health campaign endorsed by Suffolk County Council.
Why it matters: The campaign aims to encourage regular testing, support early diagnosis and make sexual health services easier to access.
The details: The kits are available through freetesting.hiv, an NHS-commissioned service. Residents can order online, and the kit arrives in plain, unbranded packaging.
The test involves a small finger-prick blood sample taken at home, which is then returned by post. The same sample tests for both HIV and syphilis, with results usually available within three working days of the sample reaching the laboratory.
The service is free and does not require a GP appointment or clinic visit.
What they're saying: Cllr June Mummery, Suffolk County Council's cabinet member for coastal affairs, communities and public health, said: "Making it as easy as possible for people to access health services is important. At-home testing provides a simple, confidential and convenient way for people to check their sexual health in a setting that suits them."
The bottom line: With no appointment or clinic visit needed, the scheme offers Suffolk residents a discreet way to check their sexual health from home.
