Bunkers, bad etiquette and big fines: Meet the construction team playing 72 holes in one day for charity
Four men from the Suffolk construction industry will walk more than 20 miles and play four full rounds of golf in a single day next month, all in aid of three charities supporting people with life-changing illnesses.
Why it matters: Matthew Ramplin, Daniel Sheldrake and Harley Ramplin from Barnes Construction, alongside Rob Bishop from Abode Construction EA, all know someone close to them – either at work or in their family – who is currently battling a life-changing illness.
The details: The 72-hole challenge takes place at Stowmarket Golf Club on Thursday, 18 June, with the team raising funds for My WiSH Charity, St Elizabeth Hospice, and Oracle Head and Neck Cancer UK.
Each golfer will play four full rounds in a single day, covering more than 20 miles on foot and taking hundreds of swings.
The twist: To boost the fundraising total, the golfers have imposed financial penalties on themselves for on-course mishaps. Time spent in bunkers and lost balls will trigger fines, visits to water hazards will attract bigger penalties, and poor golf etiquette will be strictly punished.
What they're saying: "We all know that the day will be tough, but we are confident that every donation, large or small, will help carry us through tiring fairways, aching limbs and mounting penalty charges," Daniel Sheldrake said.
How to get involved: Local businesses are being encouraged to back the challenge through corporate sponsorship opportunities, including T-shirt sponsorship across the four rounds and sponsorship of the 1st and 18th holes.
Supporters are also being encouraged to share the fundraising page and come along on the day to cheer the team on, especially during the final round.
The bottom line: Four men from the local construction industry are putting their bodies, and their wallets, on the line to raise money for three charities supporting people facing life-changing illness.
The team have raised 80% of their £2,000 funding goal so far. You can help nudge them over the line below.
