Why it matters: The serious collision has left a woman fighting for her life, with police urgently appealing for witnesses and dashcam footage to help their investigation.

The details: Police were called at 07:22 on Thursday, 11 December, to reports of a collision on Burrell Road involving a pedestrian and a silver BMW car.

The driver failed to stop and left the scene. The woman sustained serious injuries and was taken to hospital where her condition is described as life-threatening.

Following the collision, police located the car believed to have been involved in Ipswich and arrested a man in his 30s in connection with the incident. He has been taken to Martlesham Police Investigation Centre for questioning.

What's happening now: The junction of Burrell Road and Willoughby Road remains closed while forensic investigation work into the circumstances of the collision continues. Motorists are advised to find alternative routes.
