Search for missing woman expands to Nacton after new CCTV footage emerges

Police have widened the search for Christine Murton, 78, to include Nacton and Levington after CCTV footage captured her walking along a footpath near Decoy Wood on the afternoon she disappeared one week ago.

Why it matters: Christine has been missing from Rushmere St Andrew since Wednesday, 12 November, and officers remain extremely concerned for her welfare, describing her as vulnerable and possibly confused.

The details: Christine is believed to have left her house in Rushmere St Andrew mid-morning on Wednesday, 12 November, and travelled on foot. Officers have received a number of reports of possible sightings of Christine from members of the public and have been carrying out extensive searches in the Foxhall, Rushmere and Kesgrave areas, as well as reviewing CCTV opportunities.

Officers have now identified CCTV footage showing her walking along a footpath that runs behind Amberfield Drive in Nacton, in the direction of Decoy Wood, shortly after 14:45 on 12 November.

The search has expanded to include Decoy Wood and Lady Wood, as well as coastal and standing water areas supported by the Coastguard. Police believe Christine is familiar with woodland pathways and walking routes in the Nacton and Levington areas.

The search effort: Extensive searches have been carried out by police officers and the Suffolk Lowland Search and Rescue (SulSAR) team, with ground personnel assisted by drones, the police helicopter and specialist trained dogs from DK9 Search and Rescue charity. Officers have also been handing out leaflets to local residents and passersby in the Rushmere St Andrew and Nacton areas.

Detective Superintendent Tom Pearse said: "This new CCTV has been critical to our investigation and we have identified a number of woodland pathways and walking routes in and around the Nacton and Levington areas, which we believe from Christine's family that she is familiar with."

What they're saying: D/Supt Pearse added: "Christine has been missing for one week now and we remain extremely concerned for her welfare. She is vulnerable and could be confused. We continue to appeal to local residents to check their gardens, their sheds and outbuildings, and to look through any CCTV they may have."

He added: "We would urge caution for anyone considering starting their own search activity as the recent heavy rain has made some areas hazardous, and the drop in temperature increases the risk of exposure."

The car: Another line of enquiry centres around Christine's blue Toyota Yaris (registration AV14 JKF). D/Supt Pearse said Christine was not sure where her car was left prior to last week, and it may be within the Kesgrave, Rushmere or Foxhall areas, or could be further afield in and around Hadleigh and Raydon.

Description: Christine is described as white, of slim build, approximately 5ft 7ins in height with short, dark hair. She was wearing a purple jacket, blue trousers and carrying a large shoulder bag. She also wears glasses.

What to do if you have information: Dog walkers are asked to be attentive when walking in woodland and coastal areas and to report any information that may assist police. Anyone with information should contact Suffolk Police quoting CAD 257 of 12 November via the force website, by calling 999, or by using the Live Chat service on the Suffolk Constabulary website.

The bottom line: With new CCTV footage providing critical evidence of Christine's last known movements, police are focusing search efforts on woodland and coastal areas around Nacton and Levington as the search enters its second week.
