Officers are urging residents in Rushmere St Andrew to check their outbuildings and gardens as the search intensifies for Christine Murton, 78, who disappeared on Wednesday morning and is known to enjoy long walks.

Why it matters: Christine has been missing since Wednesday, 12 November, with no confirmed sightings since the day she went missing, and police are becoming increasingly concerned for her welfare.

The details: Christine is believed to have left her house mid-morning on Wednesday, 12 November, on foot and was reported missing that evening. She is described as white, of slim build, approximately 5ft 7ins in height with short, dark hair. She was wearing a purple jacket, blue trousers and carrying a large shoulder bag. She also wears glasses.

Christine is known to enjoy long walks and may have travelled some distance on foot. She also owns a blue Toyota Yaris (registration AV14 JKF), which officers are continuing to work to locate.

The search effort: Officers have conducted multiple enquiries since Christine was reported missing, including:

  • Reviewing CCTV and doorbell footage

  • House-to-house enquiries

  • Searches in the immediate vicinity and areas known to Christine

  • Assistance from Suffolk Lowland Search and Rescue (SulSAR)

Police say they are grateful for information received from the public to date, but there have been no further confirmed sightings of Christine since the day she went missing.

What residents can do: Officers are asking members of the public in the local area to check their outbuildings for any sign of Christine.

Anyone who has seen Christine or has any information about her whereabouts should contact Suffolk Police immediately, quoting CAD 257 of 12 November via:

  • Emergency: Call 999

  • Online: Report a sighting through the Suffolk Police website

  • Live Chat: Use the chat service on the Suffolk Constabulary website

The bottom line: With no confirmed sightings for several days, police need the public's help to locate Christine and ensure her safe return.
