Ipswich man charged with attempted murder after Pinewood stabbing

A 23-year-old man from Hawthorn Drive in Ipswich has been charged with attempted murder following a burglary in which a woman was stabbed in her Pinewood home.

Why it matters: The suspect faces multiple serious charges, including attempted murder, after a violent incident that left a woman requiring hospital treatment.

The details: Elliott Mallett, of Hawthorn Drive, Ipswich, has been charged with:

  • Attempted murder

  • Aggravated burglary with intent

  • Possession of an offensive weapon (a knuckle duster) in a private place

  • Possession of a controlled drug of Class B

What happened: On Saturday, 7 December, officers were called to Admiral Road at 16:55:

  • A woman discovered an intruder in her home

  • The victim was stabbed after confronting him

  • The suspect fled towards Ellenbrook Park

  • Police later recovered a knife near the scene

The aftermath:

  • The victim, in her 40s, was treated in hospital

  • She was discharged later that night

  • Police arrested Mallett on Sunday, 8 December

  • He was questioned at Martlesham Police Investigation Centre

New development: Police have concluded that a reported attempted robbery in Ellenbrook Park before the attack did not take place as reported.

The bottom line: Mallett has been remanded in custody and is due to appear at Ipswich Magistrates' Court tomorrow, Tuesday, 10 December.
