Angela Barnes announced as new headliner for Suffolk Mind comedy night

Award-winning comedian Angela Barnes will replace Angelos Epithemiou at Suffolk Mind's charity stand-up event at Seckford Hall on Thursday, June 26.

Why it matters: The event marks Suffolk Mind's first-ever stand-up comedy night fundraiser, combining entertainment with support for mental health services across the county.

The details: Barnes, a regular on BBC panel show Mock the Week and Live at the Apollo, was announced as the new headline act after former headliner Epithemiou became unable to attend the event.

Barnes recently launched her new Radio 4 stand-up series, Live from the UK, last month.

She will be joined by fellow comics John Mann, previously labelled a "complete genius" by Radio X host Johnny Vaughan, and Susan Murray, described as a "feisty fire-headed pocket rocket" by arts reviewers Broadway Baby. Louie Green will serve as MC for the evening.

What they're saying: "We are thrilled to announce Angela as our new headline act for our inaugural Stand Up for Mental Health event," said Henry Tapp, Corporate Partnerships Manager at Suffolk Mind.

"Comedy fans will recognise her for her quick wit on their television screens, while her new radio show has captured the very best of live comedy across the country."

"A big thank you goes to our co-organisers, Glass Eye Comedy, in finding us a great new headline act who we're sure will have all of us in the crowd belly laughing for such an important cause," Tapp added.

The full package: Guests will be treated to a Greek feast as part of their ticket, featuring dishes including chicken souvlaki, pulled lamb kleftiko, Greek salad and halloumi.

The event starts at 6pm with a complimentary drink, followed by food at 7pm and comedy performances beginning at 8pm.

Support system: Tapp acknowledged the event's sponsors: "A huge thank you to our amazing sponsors Pitkin & Ruddock, TMJ Interiors, Pound Gates, Bates, Wells & Braithwaite Solicitors, Greenscape Energy, MSC and Hudson Group for helping fund what is set to be a night of hilarity for mental health."

"Tickets are limited – so those looking for a great night of comedy and a smashing Greek feast should act fast to avoid disappointment," he said.

The bottom line: Tickets are limited for this strictly 18+ event. Those interested can find more information at www.suffolkmind.org.uk/stand-up, with ticketing queries directed to marketing@suffolkmind.org.uk.
