Why it matters: The awards recognise the significant contribution of financial, insurance and professional services businesses to Suffolk's economy, highlighting firms that are innovating, developing future talent and supporting communities across the county.

The winners:

  • Developing the Workforce of the Future Award: Beckett Investment Management Group

  • Community Contribution Award: Suffolk Building Society

  • Innovation Award: Abbeygate Accountancy

  • Leadership Award: Lee Walker, Chief Executive of Ipswich Central

  • Special Contribution Award: Terry Hunt, former editor of the Ipswich Star and East Anglian Daily Times and chair of the Wolsey 550 project

What they're saying: Peter Basford , chairperson of FIPS, said: "Congratulations to all the winners at the FIPS awards 2025. We had an outstanding group of finalists and submissions that really demonstrate the great work going on in the county by financial services, insurance and professional services businesses, which are the backbone of the local economy.

"The awards have shone a light on our strong community and the amazing work they are doing in innovating, inspiring future employees and showcasing Suffolk as a great place to live and work. This is the first year of the awards, and we look forward to an even bigger event in 2026."

For context: The Financial, Insurance and Professional Services Group was formed after research by the New Anglia LEP identified the need to align financial and professional services firms, local government and further education establishments.

The awards were open to Suffolk-based businesses and individuals operating in finance, insurance and professional services sectors, with applications closing on 5 September. Finalists were announced on 8 September ahead of the awards dinner on 23 October.

The bottom line: The inaugural FIPS Business Awards have showcased the strength and diversity of Suffolk's financial and professional services sector, with organisers already planning a larger event for 2026.
