Why it matters: The development comes as police continue their investigation into an incident that occurred in the early hours of Wednesday morning in an alleyway off Dial Lane.

The details: At approximately 3:15am on Wednesday, 28 January, a woman aged in her 20s reported that she was walking along Tavern Street when she was approached by a man who sexually assaulted her in an alleyway off Dial Lane. She continues to be assisted by specialist officers.

A 19-year-old man was arrested on Wednesday afternoon on suspicion of rape and taken to Martlesham Police Investigation Centre for questioning. He has subsequently been released on police bail pending further enquiries, to answer on 27 April.

What's next: Officers are continuing their investigations and are keen to speak with anyone who may have information relating to the incident, or who may have witnessed the incident, or who was in the location in the early hours of Wednesday morning or heard anything suspicious.

Anyone with information should contact Suffolk police quoting 37/5371/26 via the Suffolk police website at www.suffolk.police.uk/tell-us, by calling 101, or by contacting the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

The bottom line: Police investigations continue as a man arrested in connection with the incident remains on bail until late April.
