Green Party rally draws 200+ supporters to Ipswich waterfront

More than 200 Green Party members and supporters gathered at the University of Suffolk on Saturday, hearing from MPs and party leaders before delivering leaflets across Ipswich and Suffolk.

What happened: The event featured speeches from Green MPs Ellie Chowns and Adrian Ramsay, deputy leader Zack Polanski, and former leader Caroline Lucas. Attendees then delivered leaflets to properties in and around the area.

What they're saying: The Green Party described it as the largest gathering of activists seen in Suffolk. Adria Pittock, who stood for the Green Party in Ipswich at the last general election, said: "The energy was amazing. It was good to see that the support for the Green Party is so strong in Suffolk."

David Plowman, an Ipswich activist, described it as "a great platform for future elections when we can put the last brick in the Suffolk Green wall by getting Green councillors elected in Ipswich".

Adrian Ramsay, MP for Waveney Valley and co-leader of the Green Party, said: "The energy and enthusiasm of so many people here today really shows the Greens continue to go from strength to strength in Suffolk."

For context: The Green Party has grown from having one councillor in Suffolk over 20 years ago to now leading three of the county's five district councils, and currently forms the official opposition on Suffolk County Council and holds the Waveney Valley parliamentary seat.

The bottom line: The Green Party held its largest Suffolk rally to date, combining political speeches with grassroots campaigning activities.
