Why it matters: Saturday marks a landmark occasion for one of Suffolk's most cherished village traditions, bringing together generations through free family entertainment while honouring a beloved community figure.
The details: The Burstall Flower Show returns on 2nd August from 12:00-17:00, staying true to its roots with the Flower and Produce Marquee at its heart. Visitors will compete in categories ranging from vegetable growing and baking to flower arranging and handicrafts.
Live entertainment comes from Ipswich's Swing Machine Big Band, performing at 12:30 and again at 14:15.
They will provide a fitting soundtrack to the classic vehicle display, which includes models from the 1930s through to the 1960s, with a trophy awarded for the Best Vehicle.
The day features a dog show (register on the day), traditional tug of war, Punch & Judy, craft stalls, homemade cakes and refreshments in the Village Hall, BBQ on the green, beer and prosecco tent (open until 22:00), Oak House Farm animals, bottle tombola, raffle, and much more.
Visitors can also take part in judging The Great Burstall Bake Off, crowning this year's best Victoria Sandwich.
A special treasure hunt will take place to mark the 70th milestone, featuring memories and moments from past shows and celebrating generations of Burstall families who have taken part over the decades.

Remembering Nick Fiske: This year's event is held in memory of Nick Fiske, long-serving President of the Burstall Horticultural Society, who passed away in November 2024. Nick was born in Burstall in 1936 and dedicated much of his life to the village, serving as Church Warden, Parish Councillor, and a key organiser of the Flower Show for many years.
The bigger picture: From humble beginnings in 1954 – when flower entries cost just sixpence – to today's vibrant community celebration, the Burstall Flower Show continues to grow, thanks to the passion and dedication of villagers past and present.
Raby added: "When we moved here from a town in 2002, we were looking for community, and that's exactly what we found. There's a wonderful spirit in Burstall – you have to experience it to really understand it."
This year's show is generously sponsored by Ellisons Solicitors and Gladwells, with additional support from Walnes Seeds and local businesses including the New Wolsey Theatre, SEH French, The Brook Inn, and Adnams of Hadleigh.
What they're saying: Keith Raby, village resident and reigning Burstall Bake-off Champion, has been involved in the show for 22 years. He said: "The Burstall Show just keeps going from strength to strength. It brings the whole village together in a way that's really special. We work hard to keep the games and events traditional, and there's something for everyone – the kids love it just as much as the older generations."
The bottom line: Entry and parking are free, making it a perfect summer day out for all the family at this milestone celebration of Suffolk village life.
