Why it matters: World Book Day, organised by the National Literacy Trust, promotes the joy of reading for people of all ages.
The details: The celebrations, which took place on Wednesday, 5 March, were organised by the college's English department and included a quiz, tours of local Ipswich bookshops, giant Scrabble, library visits, and a creative writing session hosted by a university professor. Staff and students also dressed up as their favourite literary characters.
What they're saying: Brittany Kuhn, interim curriculum coordinator for English at Suffolk New College, said: "This is the first time we created something on this scale for World Book Day, and everyone really got behind the campaign. By getting involved, this has really helped us come together as a college through our love of reading."

Students were equally enthusiastic. Alfie Whitear, 17, from Ipswich, said: "I think books are a different type of media, they are great for your mind and help reduce your screen time."
Jared Patterson, 16, from Shotley, added: "I think it is important as it allows people who don't read too much to discover new things. This campaign has inspired me to read more."
The bottom line: Suffolk New College's biggest ever World Book Day celebrations brought students and staff together through a shared love of reading.
