Applications open for £1.5m fund to improve Ipswich community buildings and cultural venues

Organisations across Ipswich have until 5pm on Friday, 27 February 2026, to apply for funding from the new £1.5m Pride in Place Impact Fund, which supports projects that improve community buildings, upgrade cultural venues, and create spaces that strengthen local communities.

Why it matters: Applications are now open for the Pride in Place Impact Fund, which aims to strengthen local communities by supporting projects that improve community spaces, refurbish cultural and heritage sites, and enhance facilities that promote health, wellbeing, and community cohesion.

The details: Eligible projects may include:

  • Taking ownership of disused community assets

  • Upgrading existing community-owned or operated buildings

  • Refurbishing galleries, theatres, museums, libraries, sports facilities or cultural venues

Grants will be awarded based on the potential community outcomes of each project rather than preset amounts. This is capital funding, meaning it must be spent on building fabric, indoor spaces, large equipment and associated costs.

What they're saying: Cllr Neil MacDonald, Leader of Ipswich Borough Council, said: "This funding is a fantastic opportunity to invest in the spaces that bring our communities together. By improving and creating places where people can connect, learn and thrive, we're building a stronger, more inclusive Ipswich."

"We are committed to supporting community-driven projects that reflect local priorities and empower residents to shape the future of their neighbourhoods. I encourage local organisations to come forward with ideas that will make a real difference to our town," he added.

How to apply: To complete the initial Expression of Interest form, interested organisations will need to provide an indicative funding amount, details of what the grant will be spent on, and how local people will benefit.

Successful applicants from the Expressions of Interest stage will be asked for further information if their project is considered for funding.

For context: The £1.5m investment was awarded to Ipswich through national Pride in Place funding.

The bottom line: With applications closing at 5pm on Friday, 27 February 2026, organisations across Ipswich have a limited window to secure funding that could transform local spaces and strengthen community connections.

If your organisation is interested in applying, you can find out more about eligibility and access the application form on the Ipswich Borough Council website.
