Why Upper Brook Street is closed and what works are planned
The road closure will enable the construction of new footway areas, carriageway reconstruction, drainage works, and relocation of parking and bus facilities. Businesses are open as usual.
Why it matters: The upgrades will improve safety and accessibility for pedestrians while improving traffic flow.
The details: Upper Brook Street is now closed and will remain shut until 17:00 on Friday, 3 October. The road will be shut from 08:00 to 17:00, Monday to Friday.
Works include construction of new footway areas, footway and carriageway reconstruction, carriageway resurfacing, relocation and modification of existing parking, loading and disabled bays, and bus stop clearways. Additionally, contractors will carry out drainage works, signing works, and road marking applications.
What to look out for: During this time, drivers will be diverted via Tacket Street, Orwell Place, Upper Orwell Street, St Margaret's Street and St Margaret's Plain.
The bottom line: The closure allows all necessary improvements to be completed in one phase rather than causing repeated future disruptions.
