Why it matters: Every penny spent at the event will support the charity's work helping people across Ipswich and Suffolk learn new skills, improve their health and wellbeing, and connect with their community.

The details: The fair runs from 10:00 to 14:00, on Tuesday 7 April, at the ActivLives Chantry Walled Garden in Chantry Park. Charity volunteers will be on hand to help visitors explore the community garden and choose plants to take home. Tea, coffee and cakes will be served at Nursery Cottage.

What's on sale: As well as a new range of plants, the fair will also feature bird boxes, garden trugs and other wooden items made by members of ActivSheds, one of the charity's woodworking programmes.

About ActivLives: The Ipswich-based charity works with individuals and communities of all ages, with a particular focus on those aged 55 and over living in hard-pressed areas of Ipswich and across Suffolk. Through programmes including ActivHubs, ActivSport, ActivGardens and ActivSingers, it aims to help people stay active, healthy and connected to their communities.

The bottom line: Whether you are a seasoned gardener or just looking for a reason to get outside, the Spring Plant Fair is a great excuse to explore one of Ipswich's hidden green gems.
