**Why it matters:** Two thirds (67%) of the apprentices on board so far come from Suffolk, with the project committed to recruiting 540 of its apprentices from the county.

**The details:** The milestone was announced at the project's local community forum, which celebrated young people involved with Sizewell C and in the local community.

- Current apprenticeships span project management, civil and nuclear engineering, cyber security, and health and safety and environment, with roles including countryside worker, construction quantity surveyor and project controls professional.
- Fourteen students from Alde Valley Academy, whose pupils make up the Sizewell C Youth Council, have so far secured apprenticeships on the project.
- Youth Council members have benefited from experiences including a trip to 10 Downing Street.

**Meet the 150th apprentice:** Daisy Rayment, 18, joined on a project management apprenticeship with the University of Suffolk. She has lived in Suffolk all her life, attended Farlingaye High School in Woodbridge, and is the first in her family to work on a nuclear power project.

"I joined the Young Sizewell C programme when I was at school, so I was aware there were a lot of opportunities coming out of the project. It was a really simple process to sign up," she said.

"There's actually someone else from my school doing the same project management apprenticeship too – which was a real surprise when I turned up for the induction! It's just amazing to have a project of this size on our doorstep."

**What they're saying:** Nigel Cann, chief executive of Sizewell C and a former apprentice, said: "Major infrastructure projects like ours have a unique opportunity and a responsibility to connect young people with real jobs, real skills, and long-term careers. We want every young person, whatever their background or postcode, to see a future for themselves in engineering, construction, and the industries that will power the UK's future."

He added: "Programmes like Beyond Boundaries are also an important part of how we can raise aspirations and create as many pathways to opportunity as possible – with a million people not in education, employment, or training in the UK, these pathways are more important than ever."

**For context:** A new cohort of 20 young people from underrepresented communities has also started on Beyond Boundaries, a programme delivered by Sizewell C's social partner, Ipswich and Suffolk Council for Racial Equality (ISCRE).

Launched as a two-year pilot, it helps 15- to 21-year-olds build the skills, confidence and connections needed to access sustainable, well-paid careers.

**By the numbers:** Of the first cohort of 20 participants:

- One secured a full-time role directly with Sizewell C.
- Three secured full-time roles with other local companies.
- One secured an apprenticeship with a local company.
- Two secured university places.
- One won a place on a summer internship at Sizewell C.

Cyril, 18, one of the latest cohort, said: "One of my childhood friends, Sean, took part in this programme last year. I saw how it helped him improve his life, and I would like to benefit from the programme in the same way. I want to learn what to say in interviews and how to express myself confidently without going quiet."

Aleksandra Kasinska, ISCRE's project lead for Beyond Boundaries, said: "Beyond Boundaries provides a valuable route into skilled employment by supporting young people who face additional barriers to access opportunities, build their confidence, skills and networks, and connect them with employers and mentors."

**What’s next:** Sizewell C is expected to break ground on College on the Coast, its permanent post-16 college and apprentice hub in Leiston, this year.

- Planning permission was granted in July, and archaeology is now underway on the site. The college will form part of an education campus.
- Work has also started on The Lound Civil Campus at East Coast College, which will train up to 3,000 learners in the engineering and construction skills needed for Sizewell C and future Nationally Significant Infrastructure Projects across the UK.
- The campus is backed by £2.1m from the Asset Skills Enhancement and Capability Fund, part of a £7.8m package jointly managed by Suffolk County Council, East Suffolk Council and Sizewell C.

**The bottom line:** Sizewell C has passed 10% of its apprenticeship pledge, with two thirds of its recruits so far coming from Suffolk. More than 1,300 of the 1,500 promised places are still to be filled.
