**Why it matters:** Riviera D'Amour brings fine dining and a new bar to a prominent Waterfront venue, in an area its general manager says "seems to be the place to be".

**The details:** The restaurant soft-launched on Wednesday, 28 October, at the Tented Building on Eagle Wharf, Helena Road. The team behind it also runs Ocean Fish Platter in Ipswich.

Upstairs is a fine-dining restaurant that general manager Ron described as "definitely more formal", with a "predominantly jazzy kind of feel". According to its website, the menus feature Mediterranean favourites, charcoal grills and desserts.

Downstairs, the bar and lounge will be "more informal, more relaxed", serving small plates from a menu that is still being finalised. The bar is currently over-21s only, and its drinks menu is "coming soon".

**What they're saying:** Ron said the team was busier than anticipated on the opening night. "It was a little bit hectic," he said. "The kitchen were amazing. Really good feedback, so can't complain."

Asked about the standout dishes, he replied: "All of them."

In an Instagram post marking the end of its first week, the restaurant said: "Our first week has come to an end, and just wow! What an incredible welcome!"

"We've spent so long talking about our vision, and to finally see it come to life has been truly incredible. Your kindness and support have made this first week more special than we could ever have imagined."

**Famous faces:** The restaurant marked Walle Egeli's visit on Instagram: "It was an absolute pleasure having you and the lads with us. But next time, let's leave the singing to the professionals."

**For context:** Ron said the age policy at the bar was introduced because the previous venue "got a bit rowdy", though he added: "It wasn't because they did anything really that bad. It was just unfortunately they got a bit bad press every time something did happen. So for now we are using just over 21s."

**The bigger picture:** Ron hopes more businesses like it will open towards the other end of the marina. "In an ideal world, we'll have a couple of more businesses like this," he said.

**What's next:** The team will draw up an events programme in January, with ideas including wine tastings, theme nights, music themes and private parties such as baby showers.

"Come first week in January, we'll sit down and work out where we go and what we book for the rest of the year," Ron said.

**Opening times:** Riviera D'Amour is closed on Mondays. The kitchen is open Tuesday to Sunday from 12:00 to 22:00\. The bar is open from 12:00 to 22:00 Tuesday to Thursday and Sunday, and until midnight on Friday and Saturday. On-site parking is available.

**The bottom line:** Riviera D'Amour has made a busy start on the Ipswich Waterfront, and with an events programme on the way, its team hopes the new venue will bring something different to the marina.
