**Why it matters:** Organised by the Royal British Legion and Ipswich Borough Council, the Remembrance Sunday service brings the community together to pay their respects to members of the armed forces who have lost their lives during conflicts and in service to their country.

**The details:** The service starts at 10:50am and will be attended by veterans, civic leaders, members of the armed forces, cadets and other organisations.

- Military representatives and youth organisations will march to the service, leaving Elm Street at about 10:15am.
- The parade will travel along Elm Street, Museum Street, Westgate Street, Tavern Street, Northgate Street, Upper Brook Street and Crown Street into Soane Street.
- After the service, Mayor of Ipswich Cllr Pat Bruce-Browne and Lord Lieutenant of Suffolk Mark Pendlington DL will take the salute at the March Past.

**What to look out for:** Members of the public are welcome to watch the march along the route, but are asked to leave enough space for the parade and to follow directions from police and security staff.

Road closures of up to 10 minutes will be in place as the parade marches to and from Christchurch Park, between 10:00-10:45 and 12:30-13:15\. Most are full closures, with partial closures on Westgate Street and Crown Street:

- **Elm Street:** Civic Drive to Museum Street
- **Museum Street:** Crown Street to Princes Street
- **Westgate Street (partial):** Museum Street to Cornhill
- **Cornhill:** Westgate Street to Tavern Street
- **Tavern Street:** Cornhill to Northgate Street
- **Northgate Street:** Tavern Street to Crown Street
- **Upper Brook Street:** Tacket Street to Northgate Street
- **Crown Street (partial):** Fonnereau Road to St Margaret’s Street
- **Soane Street:** St Margaret’s Street to Bolton Lane

**What they’re saying:** Cllr Bruce-Browne said: “At this time of year, we pay our respects to all those who have served our country or have been affected by conflict. We hope many local people will take an opportunity to join us by attending these Remembrance Day events and observing the two-minute silence.”

She added: “We come together to remember those from Ipswich and across the Commonwealth who gave their lives to protect our democracy and freedoms, and to thank those serving today. It is important that we as a community continue to reflect on these sacrifices by servicemen and women, and by ordinary people, made on our behalf.”

**What’s next:** On Armistice Day, Wednesday, 11 November, veterans and children from local schools will gather at 10:50 at the Fields of Honour in the Old Cemetery and at the Cenotaph in Christchurch Park for services of remembrance.

- The sounding of maroons will mark the start and end of a two-minute silence at 11:00.
- No road closures will be in place for the Armistice Day events.

**The bottom line:** Ipswich will pause to remember those who gave their lives in conflict, with a parade and service on Remembrance Sunday and a two-minute silence on Armistice Day.
