**Why it matters:** The Pipers Vale Wellbeing Trail offers a free and accessible way for residents and visitors of all ages to spend time outdoors, with Suffolk County Council citing research that shows connecting with nature can help people feel calmer, more grounded and more present.

**The details:** The trail was developed by Suffolk County Council, with support from Ipswich Borough Council, Forestry England and Green Light Trust.

- Along the route, visitors are invited to pause and reflect through themed prompts: Breathe, Pause, Be Still, Notice, Awaken Senses, Stand Firm, Find Wonder, Connect, Restore and Wander.
- Ipswich Borough Council, which owns and manages Orwell Country Park, played a key role in delivering the project, including installing the new trail signs.

**The bigger picture:** The trail is part of a wider programme to establish the Orwell area as a destination for nature, walking and wellbeing.

It connects with the King Charles III England Coast Path, the 5.5-mile (8.9km) Ipswich Waterfront Walk and a range of access and landscape improvements that are making it easier for residents and visitors to explore the area's green spaces, waterfront and natural environment.

**What they're saying:** Cllr June Mummery, Suffolk County Council's cabinet member for coastal affairs, communities and public health, said: "We're all busy, and it's easy to rush through places without really noticing what's around us. This trail encourages people to slow down, look a little closer and take time to enjoy the natural environment right on their doorstep."

Cllr Stefan Long, Ipswich Borough Council's portfolio holder for environment and sport, said: "Taking just a few minutes out of a busy day to pause, reflect and spend time outdoors can have a positive impact on mood, energy levels and overall wellbeing.

"The short trail around Pipers Vale has been designed to encourage people to do exactly that, with plenty of seating and opportunities to stop, take in the scenery and connect with nature."

**The bottom line:** Suffolk County Council and Ipswich Borough Council have opened a new wellbeing trail at Orwell Country Park, timed to coincide with World Mental Health Day on Saturday, 10 October.
