**Why it matters:** Local families now have a modern, accessible place to play, with inclusive equipment designed so children of all abilities can play side by side.

**The details:** The play area has a focus on accessibility and inclusive play. The nature-themed design encourages children to explore, create stories and enjoy active outdoor play. Its features include:

- A variety of swings
- A wheelchair-accessible carousel
- An inclusive seesaw
- Sensory musical elements

**What they're saying:** Councillor Stefan Long, Ipswich Borough Council's portfolio holder for environment and sport, said: "It's fantastic to see this new play area open and ready to welcome local children and families. The equipment has been thoughtfully designed around a nature theme, bringing something a little different to Ellenbrook Park and encouraging children to use their imagination while staying active outdoors.

"Accessibility has been a key consideration throughout the project, and we're proud to have created a space where children can play happily alongside one another.

"Play areas are an important part of our parks and communities, and this investment demonstrates our commitment to providing enjoyable outdoor spaces for residents across Ipswich."

**For context:** The project is one of a number of improvements being delivered through Ipswich Borough Council's £3.5m Play Area Strategy, which is investing in modern, high-quality play facilities across the town.

In June, the council opened a new play area at Murray Road Recreation Ground, featuring 29 new pieces of equipment.

**The bottom line:** Ellenbrook Park's nature-inspired play area is now open, giving children aged two to 10 an accessible space to play as the council continues rolling out its £3.5m strategy across Ipswich.
