Man charged after serious assault in Chantry area of Ipswich

A 39-year-old man has been charged with wounding with intent and affray following a Friday night altercation in Chantry that left another man hospitalised.

The details: The assault occurred between 9.15pm and 9.25pm on Friday 9 May, when two men were involved in a physical altercation.

The injured man was taken to hospital for treatment, where he remained over the weekend. His condition has since improved and he was due to be discharged from hospital on Monday, 12 May.

Joesph Jay, of no fixed address, was arrested on Saturday 10 May at an address in the Chantry area in connection with the incident.

What's next: Jay appeared before Ipswich Magistrates' Court on Monday, where he was remanded in custody pending an appearance at Ipswich Crown Court on Monday, 9 June.
