Why it matters: The focused patrols target street drinkers causing anti-social behaviour in the town centre and form part of a long-term plan involving police and partner agencies.

The details: Officers from Ipswich Central CPT and the Kestrel team will be conducting the targeted foot patrols across day and late shifts in specific hot spots.

Data analysis has identified key problem areas including:

  • Tavern Street
  • Upper Brook Street
  • Tacket Street
  • Arras Square
  • Barrack Corner
  • The Waterfront

What to do: Members of the public who witness street drinking, "aggressive begging" or other disorderly behaviour are asked to call 101, or 999 if offences are being committed.

Police are also inviting residents to report additional specific streets or locations where this anti-social behaviour regularly occurs.

The bottom line: The initiative, called Operation Proxy, aims to take enforcement action against those causing problems in Ipswich town centre.
