**Why it matters:** Hyam was jailed for pushing a woman to the ground near Wherstead Road, with police using a police dog to apprehend him after he fled the scene.

**The details:** The incident took place in the vicinity of Wherstead Road and Croft Street on Saturday, 13 September. Police were called shortly after 14:15 to reports that a woman had been pushed to the ground by a man known to her, who had then stolen her rucksack containing keys, a purse and other personal items.

Officers attended and spoke with the victim, who was not injured. Hyam was traced on CCTV crossing Stoke Bridge and running towards the town centre.

**What happened next:** Officers pursued Hyam, who refused to stop despite several commands from police. He was eventually apprehended by police dog Thor and his handler, and detained.

Hyam denied a charge of robbery but pleaded guilty to assault by beating.

**The bottom line:** A 39-year-old Ipswich man is now serving 15 weeks behind bars after assaulting a woman in September, with quick police work and a police dog helping to secure his arrest.
