Ipswich bus routes and timetables change from 12 April
Ipswich Buses is making a series of timetable and route changes from Sunday, 12 April, aimed at improving punctuality across several services hit by rising traffic congestion.
Why it matters: The changes affect a number of key routes across the town and beyond, including services to Colchester and Manningtree, and will result in some passengers having to use different or relocated bus stops.
The details: The most significant change affects Service 1 (Ipswich Central to John Lewis). To improve punctuality, buses will no longer serve the stops on Sandyhill Lane and Roebuck Road, instead continuing along Landseer Road. Two new stops will be installed on Landseer Road at the junction of Sandyhill Lane, and buses will still call at the Holbrook Road bus shelter. Ipswich Buses says passengers previously using the Sandyhill Lane and Roebuck Road stops will be no more than 320 metres from a stop in either direction.
Other changes include:
- Service 2 will keep the same frequency, but evening timetables will be revised to improve reliability during peak hours.
- Services 7 (to Henley Gate) and 16 (to Stoke Park) will see minor timetable adjustments, with no change to frequency.
- Service 92 (Ipswich to Manningtree) will have two afternoon journeys running five to ten minutes later than at present.
- Services 93 and 93A (Ipswich to Colchester) will operate via a revised route in Colchester due to ongoing congestion in parts of northern Colchester. Service X93 is not affected.
- Services 118/119 will see simplified routes and improved consistency, alongside minor changes to selected school services.
What they're saying: Dan Bassett, managing director of Ipswich Buses, said: "These changes are all about improving reliability where it matters most to our customers. We know that congestion has made it increasingly challenging to keep services running on time in some areas, particularly during peak periods.
"By making targeted adjustments to timetables and routes, we are ensuring that passengers benefit from more consistent and dependable journeys; steps have been taken to maintain access for our customers and minimise inconvenience wherever possible."
The bottom line: The changes are designed to help Ipswich Buses run more reliably on routes where growing congestion has caused persistent delays – though some passengers will need to check whether their usual stop or timetable has changed before travelling.
