This is ahead of the two five-week blocks of beginners' classes, delivered jointly by Tango AdHoc, based in Ipswich, and Tango Zone, based in Colchester. Classes will run on Wednesday evenings, 19:30-21:30, starting Wednesday, 7 October 2026, at Holy Trinity Church Hall, Back Hamlet, Ipswich. - £10 per class, or £45 in advance for a five-class block - Students: £8 per class, or £35 in advance for a five-class block **What they're saying:** Mirjam, who runs Tango AdHoc with partner Steve, said the pair moved to Ipswich from Norwich just over a year ago and spotted a gap in the town's tango scene. "There's been Argentine tango in and around the town over a number of years but it's been on and off," she said. "When we made the move to Ipswich from Norwich just over a year ago, we saw an opportunity to develop tango in the town." Mirjam said: "I think Argentine tango is associated with ballroom tango and the perception is that it is less accessible than salsa and also more demanding. For many people their first introduction to Argentine tango is seeing it on the BBC's Strictly Come Dancing – a double-edged sword! What you're seeing is show tango, not social tango, which is a bit different." She added that newcomers have plenty to discover: "There's a wealth of music to discover, it is improvised so no set steps to learn, there's more than one way to dance Argentine tango, there's always something new to learn, it's cool across Europe and in many countries worldwide, it's a lifelong dance." **The bigger picture:** Mirjam has been dancing tango for 15 years, after hearing a piece of Argentine tango music on the radio. "I heard a piece of Argentine tango music on the radio, loved it and sought out more," she said. "By chance, there was an opportunity to learn locally, and I discovered that the dance was improvised, so no set steps to learn or count. I realised that it was achievable even for someone who gets their left and right feet in a muddle!
