**Why it matters:** The funding forms part of a national drive by the Government to end rough sleeping, with ministers saying no one should be left sleeping on the streets over the coming months.

**The details:** Ipswich will receive £344,140 in 2026-27, with further instalments over the following two years taking the total allocation to £1,253,145\. The money forms part of a wider £442 million package, which the Government says is fully funded from uncommitted Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government (MHCLG) budgets.

The full breakdown for Ipswich is:

| Allocation | Amount |

| **Total CDEL allocation** | **£436,255** |
| **Total allocation** | **£1,253,145** |

The Government says the programme will be led by Mayoral Strategic Authorities and local authorities, working with local partners, and will combine immediate provision to help people access accommodation and support before Christmas 2026 with settled homes and intensive wraparound support for people who have experienced the longest periods of rough sleeping.

Nationally, the Government says the funding will help deliver more than 1,000 settled homes across England over the next three years, alongside continued support to help people keep them.

**What they're saying:** Jack Abbott, MP for Ipswich, welcomed the investment, saying: "This £1.25 million investment is a major boost for Ipswich and will make a real difference to people facing homelessness in our town. It means practical support to help people get off the streets now, while also investing in settled accommodation and the wraparound support people need to rebuild their lives for good."

He added: "I want Ipswich to be a town where everyone has the chance to build a secure future, and this investment is an important step towards making that a reality."

Prime Minister Andy Burnham said: "No-one should have to bed down in a doorway or outside a station. But we've seen it for so long that it feels like Westminster has started to accept it. I won't accept it. That's why my first instruction as Prime Minister was to end rough sleeping. And it's why today we're getting started with a national drive to get everyone in for Christmas."

Housing Secretary Angela Rayner said: "This funding will help thousands of people leave the streets behind, move into secure homes and get the support they need to rebuild their lives. Working alongside councils, mayors and charities, we're backing local areas to tackle rough sleeping at its roots, giving people the security, dignity and opportunity they deserve, and restoring hope to those who have been let down for far too long."

**For context:** The Government says the guidance accompanying the funding will make clear the need for adequate and accessible provision for women experiencing rough sleeping, including consideration of single-sex accommodation with specialist, trauma-informed support for victims of domestic abuse and sexual violence.

Separately, £8.4 million of the new funding is going to the Ending Homelessness in Communities Fund, taking total allocations for 100 projects nationally to £47 million over three years, according to the Government.

Research by the charity Crisis, cited by the Government, suggests preventing 40,000 people from becoming homeless for a year could save taxpayers around £370 million.

**What's next:** The Prime Minister is to host a national summit on tackling rough sleeping in the autumn, bringing together leaders from business, finance, charities, health and faith communities to discuss what role each can play in ending rough sleeping.

**The bottom line:** Ipswich is being promised practical support to get people off the streets in the coming months, backed by government money – though the scale of the town's rough sleeping problem, and how quickly the funding will translate into help on the ground, remains to be seen.
