**The big picture:** Edward was last heard from at 17:30 on Tuesday, 14 January. His blue Skoda was discovered in the Gainsborough area of Ipswich on Friday, 17 January, after a member of the public alerted police.

**Why it matters:** Following the discovery of his vehicle, officers focused their search efforts around the River Orwell and surrounding coastline.

**For context:** The multi-agency operation involved Suffolk Police working alongside HM Coastguard and Suffolk Lowland Search and Rescue (SulSAR) teams.

**What they're saying:** Police have confirmed that while no formal identification has yet been made, Edward's next of kin have been notified of the discovery.

**What's next:** A file will be prepared for the Coroner in due course.

**The bottom line:** The discovery comes after an extensive search operation that began when Edward's car was located in Ipswich, as concerns grew for his welfare.
