Why it matters: The initiative aims to help local organisations commemorate those who lost their lives during the pandemic and provide spaces for community reflection.

The details:

  • The council is offering local grant funding to help cover event costs, including refreshments
  • Two community rooms at Gainsborough and Whitton Sports Centres will be available free of charge
  • A Tree of Reflection will be planted in Alderman Road Recreation Ground in March

What they're saying: "The COVID-19 pandemic impacted us in so many ways, so it's important that we take this time to reflect and support one another," says Councillor John Cook, Ipswich Borough Council's Portfolio Holder for Communities and Sport.

How to apply: Community groups can request funding support and book the community rooms by emailing communities@ipswich.gov.uk

The bottom line: Groups interested in organising events can find additional guidance and support services information on the official UK COVID-19 Day of Reflection website.
