**Why it matters:** The centre, a shopping, dining and leisure destination in Ipswich, had been closed since Friday, 28 August, affecting shoppers, tenants and staff.

**The details:** Centre manager Rebecca Bird confirmed the centre and car park reopened from 08:00 today.

**For context:** The centre, on St Stephens Lane, closed on Friday, 28 August, as a precaution after a mains water escape.

At the time, centre bosses said: "We apologise for the inconvenience, but the Buttermarket Ipswich is closed temporarily as a precautionary measure following a burst water main. The health and safety of our visitors, tenants and staff is paramount, and we will reopen once necessary checks are carried out, and we are able to do so."

The centre worked with specialist contractors to assess the impact and carry out the necessary works, while parts of the electrical systems remained switched off for safety checks. "The safety and welfare of our visitors, tenants and staff remains our absolute priority," the centre said in a further update. "We are working to restore areas of the centre to normal operation as soon as it is safe to do so."

TK Maxx reopened ahead of the wider centre, accessible via the Queen Street entrance.

**The bottom line:** After days of disruption, The Buttermarket is back open to shoppers, tenants and staff.
