University of Suffolk climbs 27 places in national rankings

The University of Suffolk has risen 27 places to 97th in The Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide 2026, earning runner-up recognition for both Teaching Quality and Student Experience.

University of Suffolk

Why it matters: The 27-place rise represents one of the largest year-on-year improvements in the guide, potentially improving the university's appeal to prospective students and employers.

The details: The university achieved a Teaching Quality score of 92.2% and Student Experience score of 88.7%, placing it second nationally in both categories.

The guide compiles results using data including graduate prospects, entry requirements, student results, and feedback from the annual National Student Survey.

The bigger picture: This recognition caps a successful year for the university, which has also climbed in the Guardian University Guide 2026 and won University of the Year at the What Uni Student Choice Awards 2025 as voted for by students.

What they're saying: Professor Jenny Higham, Vice-Chancellor, said: "We are delighted to be recognised as runners-up for both Teaching Quality and Student Experience by The Times and Sunday Times and to be ranked second for Teaching Satisfaction by the Guardian.

"To achieve this recognition as a young university highlights the strength of our learning and teaching and the exceptional experiences we provide. Our focus on delivering an outstanding academic and supportive environment is clearly making a positive impact."

Lee-Ann Durrant, President of Education at the University of Suffolk Students' Union, added: "What an achievement! To be recognised for teaching excellence and great student experience is fantastic. At the Students' Union we are passionate about providing services and activities which are by students, for students, and proud to be a part of supporting the student body in complementing their studies and ensuring that the student voice is heard throughout the University."

What's next: The university is holding two Open Days this autumn on Saturday, 4 October and Saturday, 15 November, where prospective students can visit the campus, tour facilities and meet lecturers and current students.

The bottom line: The University of Suffolk has recorded a 27-place rise to 97th position alongside runner-up places for Teaching Quality and Student Experience, marking a significant improvement in its national standing.
