Two arrested on suspicion of murder after Ipswich man dies 18 days after Whitehouse assault

A man in his 40s who died at Ipswich Hospital on Sunday is now the subject of a murder investigation, with two suspects arrested today.

The details: Police are treating the death as suspicious, and a Home Office post-mortem examination will be carried out tomorrow, Wednesday, 13 August.

  • The investigation centres on an altercation and assault reported in the Ulster Avenue and Waterford Road areas of the Whitehouse estate last month.

  • An altercation is believed to have taken place shortly before 16:50 on Friday, 25 July, on Ulster Avenue, with an assault reported a short time later on Waterford Road.

What happened next: An adult male and a teenage boy were first arrested on 26 July on suspicion of assault causing grievous bodily harm and released on police bail until 6 October.

The pair were arrested again today on suspicion of murder and are currently being questioned at Martlesham Police Investigation Centre.

What they're saying: Suffolk Police are appealing for witnesses who were present in the Ulster Avenue and Waterford Road areas on 25 July to come forward with any information.
