To infinity and beyond: College welcomes new alpaca Fuzz Lightyear

Suffolk New College's Rural campus has welcomed an adorable new arrival, with a baby alpaca making his debut just in time for the new term.

The big picture: The newborn, named Fuzz Lightyear, arrived on Monday at the college's Otley-based Suffolk Rural campus.

What they're saying: Andrew Waddingham, a senior animal technician at Suffolk Rural said: "Fuzz Lightyear was born on Monday. We looked up alpaca names on the internet and this is what we came up with - it made us all smile."

  • On the mother's care: "So far it has been going amazingly well. Fudge (his mum) is really attentive -- and this is what you want. She is also really patient when it comes to feeding."

  • On student reaction: "The feedback from them students in relation to Fuzz has been brilliant -- it's been a great way to start a new term."

Why it matters: The birth of Fuzz provides valuable hands-on learning experiences for students studying animal care and adds to the diverse range of animals...ok, ok, here's some pictures:

The bottom line: The arrival of Fuzz coincides with the start of a new academic term at Suffolk New College , where thousands of students are beginning their educational journeys.
