Three suspects have bail extended in Ipswich murder case

Three people arrested in connection with the murder of William McNicholl in Hawthorn Drive have had their bail dates extended until 1 October.

Why it matters: The investigation into the 63-year-old's death continues six months after his body was discovered on New Year's Day, with multiple suspects still under investigation.

The details: Officers found Mr McNicholl, known as Billy, deceased at an address in Hawthorn Drive shortly before 18:00 on 1 January. A Home Office post-mortem indicated he died from head injuries and a single stab wound.

Three people were arrested on 1 April as part of the investigation: a 17-year-old boy, an 18-year-old man and a 41-year-old man. They were arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender and being concerned in the supply of Class A and B drugs.

The trio were originally bailed to return to police on 1 July, but these dates have now been extended until 1 October.

What's next: A separate 17-year-old boy arrested on suspicion of murder on 22 January remains on bail with conditions until 22 July. A woman in her 50s, previously arrested on suspicion of murder, has been told she faces no further action.

Detective Inspector Mark Hughes said: "It is now six months since the discovery of Billy's body. Investigations into his murder and those that may have been involved continue. We would again urge anyone with any information, no matter how small you feel it may be, to come forward."

How to help: Anyone with information can contact police quoting reference 37/162/25 via the Major Incident Public Reporting Portal at https://mipp.police.uk/operation/363719P01-PO1, by calling 101, or anonymously through Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

The bottom line: Suffolk Constabulary's Major Investigation Team continues to pursue multiple leads in the murder case, with several suspects remaining under investigation as the inquiry approaches its seventh month.
