The Moloko set to reopen this weekend under original owner

Ipswich nightspot The Moloko returns this Saturday after a three-month closure, with founder Zoe Cutting back at the helm.

Why it matters: The venue's comeback addresses a gap in Ipswich's nightlife scene, with Cutting emphasising safety as a priority alongside entertainment. "There's a huge appetite for what The Moloko represents—somewhere vibrant, fun, and above all, safe. We're ready to bring it back and make it better than ever," she said.

The big picture: Originally launched in 2021, The Moloko is being revived with several significant changes, including a £100,000 transformation of its outdoor space and new age policies.

By the numbers: The reopening announcement has already generated over 30,000 views on social media, according to Cutting, demonstrating strong community interest.

What they're saying: "The response has been overwhelming. Seeing how much love there still is for The Moloko proves just how much people have missed having a space like this in Ipswich," says Cutting.

The details:

  • The venue now features an all-weather terrace with retractable walls and ceilings

  • Fridays will be over-18s, while Saturdays will enforce an over-21s policy after 9pm

  • Door staff and a renewed focus on mutual respect form part of the safety measures

  • The Moloko will operate primarily as a bar rather than a restaurant

What's next: Cutting plans to introduce daytime clubbing events for those who "want to party all afternoon and be home by 9pm".

The bottom line: The Moloko's reopening weekend kicks off on Saturday, 29 March with RP Rossi-P playing old-school R&B, garage and soul classics from 9pm to 2am, followed by Sunday Soul featuring Ricky Hanley on 30 March from 3pm.
