St Stephen's Church to air Women's Euro Final as England seek redemption

St Stephen's Church will host a big screen showing of England's Euro 2025 final against Spain on Sunday, 27 July, as the Lionesses bid to overturn their World Cup final heartbreak from 2023.

Why it matters: This is a repeat of the 2023 World Cup final, which Spain won, giving England their chance at redemption. And what better place to do it than...church.

The free family-friendly screening offers supporters the opportunity to witness a potentially historic moment as England chase their second consecutive European championship after heartbreak two years ago when Spain defeated them in the World Cup final in Sydney.

The details: The screening is being organised by Ipswich Central  and Brighten the Corners at the converted church venue in the town centre.

  • Build-up coverage begins at 15:00, with the final shown live from 17:00 as England face Spain in Basel.

  • The venue can accommodate up to 200 people and includes a café/bar which will be open throughout the event.

What's changed: England's squad has undergone significant changes since that 2023 defeat. Seven players who started against Spain in the World Cup final were in Tuesday's semi-final win over Italy, but there have been notable departures, including goalkeeper Mary Earps and midfielder Fran Kirby, who both retired from international football.

What they're saying: Ipswich Central CEO Lee Walker  said: "We're thrilled that once again St Stephen's Church will be bringing fans together to enjoy an exciting final. It's a great opportunity to enjoy a football final in an iconic venue in the town centre."

Joe Bailey, chief executive of Brighten the Corners, added: "We're delighted to be linking up to host this free event at St Stephen's Church for people to come and enjoy the Women's Euro Final."

The bottom line: With England seeking to avenge their 2023 World Cup final defeat, Sunday's showdown promises to be a memorable viewing experience for supporters across Ipswich – wherever you decide to watch it.
