Share your Regent Theatre memories for historic time capsule

Ipswich residents are invited to contribute ideas ranging from personal memories to photographs and memorabilia that capture what the beloved theatre means to them.

Why it matters: A selection of these ideas will be sealed in a time capsule during the final stages of the theatre's restoration, giving future generations a glimpse into the Regent's vibrant history and community importance.

The details: The public can suggest memories, stories, photos, objects, or memorabilia through an online form. One confirmed item for the time capsule is a newspaper from 4 November 1959, marking the Regent's 30th birthday.

For context: The Grade II listed theatre is currently undergoing refurbishment works focused on enhancing customer experience, with upgrades including expanded bars, increased toilet facilities featuring a Changing Places space, and a lift installation to improve access to the Circle Lounge.

What's next: The restoration works are scheduled for completion in December, just in time for the grand reopening with the festive pantomime Cinderella, running from 12 to 31 December 2025.

What they're saying: "This is a special opportunity to capture the spirit of the Ipswich Regent Theatre and its place in the heart of Ipswich," said Councillor Jane Riley, Ipswich Borough Council Portfolio Holder for Culture and Customers. "We're inviting the public to have their say and suggest meaningful items that reflect their personal memories or the theatre's impact on the community."

The bottom line: The public has until Sunday, 31 August, to submit their suggestions.
