More than two years after a fire damaged Riverhills Health Club & Day Spa, the team behind its £6 million rebuild is now up for a national award.

Why it matters: The spa team has been shortlisted for 'Spa Team of the Year' at the Professional Beauty Awards 2026, recognising strong collaboration, professionalism, and outstanding service during extraordinary circumstances.

The big picture: The fire in June 2023 caused significant damage to the health club and day spa in Bramford Road, forcing therapists to deliver treatments across alternative locations during the complete redevelopment. Despite the disruption, the team maintained service standards whilst contributing to the venue's transformation.

The details: Riverhills therapists worked closely with management and partners during the rebuild, introducing new approaches to guest experience. The team's commitment to mentorship, continuous training, and inclusivity has been central to the spa's redevelopment.

Growing local talent: Riverhills, which was acquired by Mosaic Spa & Health Clubs in 2021, is expanding its workforce by partnering with Suffolk New College  to create career opportunities for graduates. Three newly qualified therapists have recently joined through the collaboration, which includes mentoring, hands-on training, and access to industry-recognised courses.

What they're saying: Debbie Lawes, spa manager, said: "Our team has faced unprecedented challenges over the last two years, but their resilience, passion, and dedication has been truly inspiring. Being shortlisted for this award is a wonderful recognition of their unwavering commitment to delivering exceptional experiences for every guest."

Dave Courteen, managing director of Riverhills, added: "This nomination highlights the incredible talent and teamwork within Riverhills Health Club & Spa. Our team turned adversity into opportunity, helping us redefine luxury wellness. I couldn't be prouder of what they have achieved together."

What's next: Winners will be announced at a ceremony on Sunday, 1 March 2026, at the Royal Lancaster London.

The bottom line: After maintaining service through a devastating fire and £6 million rebuild, the Riverhills spa team has earned national recognition for resilience and professionalism.
