Man arrested in connection with fatal Ipswich stabbing

A 27-year-old Ipswich man has been arrested on suspicion of murder following the fatal stabbing of a 26-year-old woman on Burrell Road on Tuesday evening.

The big picture: A 27-year-old local man was taken into custody on Wednesday morning, as investigations continue into the death of a 26-year-old woman on Burrell Road.

Key details:

  • The victim, now confirmed to be 26 years old, died in hospital despite emergency treatment

  • The suspect was arrested in Ipswich and taken to Martlesham Police Investigation Centre

  • Police believe the victim and suspect were known to each other

  • A cordon remains in place at the scene, with Burrell Road still closed

What they're saying: Superintendent Andy Martin said: "Residents will continue to see an increased police presence in the area as our investigation continues."

He added: "While we remain in the early stages of our enquiries, we believe the victim and the suspect are known to each other."

Ongoing appeal: Despite the arrest, police are still urging the public to provide information. They are particularly interested in:

  • Dash cam footage from drivers in the area

  • CCTV or doorbell camera footage from nearby residents

  • Any footage captured between 18:30 and 19:30 BST on Tuesday 6 August

The bottom line: While an arrest has been made, the investigation is ongoing. Police continue to appeal for witnesses and any information to assist their enquiries.
