Local hearing care firm backs dementia golf programme

Why it matters: All About Hearing , which operates clinics in Ipswich, Woodbridge, Framlingham and Woolpit, has committed to backing the initiative that runs twice monthly at the Woodbridge club. The partnership will help expand the Fore Get Me Not Golf programme, which provides a safe and inclusive environment for individuals affected by dementia to continue enjoying the physical and mental benefits of golf.

The bigger picture: Untreated hearing loss has been identified as one of the most significant modifiable risk factors for cognitive decline. When hearing is impaired, the brain works harder to interpret sounds, often at the expense of memory and thinking. Over time, this added strain – along with the social isolation that can come with hearing loss – may increase the risk of developing dementia.

What they're saying: Matthew Coward , Co-Director of All About Hearing, said: "We see first-hand how untreated hearing loss can impact quality of life, and we know it's closely linked with cognitive decline. By supporting Fore Get Me Not, we're not only promoting hearing health but helping create a more inclusive, dementia-aware community."

"All About Hearing is deeply committed to supporting wellbeing in later life, and we know how important it is to stay socially and physically active, especially for those living with dementia," said Karen Finch , Lead Audiologist at All About Hearing. "We're proud to sponsor a programme that brings so much value to individuals and families in our local community."

Tony Pennock, Seckford Golf Club Manager and co-founder of the programme, welcomed the backing: "We're incredibly grateful to All About Hearing for backing this important initiative. Their involvement allows us to grow the programme and reach more people who benefit from the social connection, activity and joy that golf brings, regardless of the challenges they may face."

The bottom line: The sponsorship deal will help Seckford Golf Club expand their dementia support programme whilst raising awareness of how hearing health impacts brain health.
