Local artists invited to transform Portman Road hoardings into 170sqm mural

Local artists, designers and creatives wanting their work featured on a 170 square metre mural opposite Portman Road have until 17:00 on Sunday, 15 February to submit their designs.

Why it matters: The competition offers local creatives the chance to transform the prominent canvas, with a £2,000 prize for the winning design that will be displayed on wooden hoardings at the Portman Road car park.

The details: Ipswich Town FC and All About Ipswich are inviting artists, designers and creatives to submit proposals for a large-scale mural installation directly opposite the stadium. The final design will be professionally printed onto Dibond panels and installed by an All About Ipswich production team.

The competition is looking for bold, creative designs that celebrate the spirit of Ipswich and Ipswich Town FC, are suitable for large-scale display, and are inclusive, community-focused, and visually impactful from a distance. Designs must not include advertising or commercial logos, aside from ITFC and campaign branding if desired.

Technical requirements: The mural will be installed on hoardings covering approximately 170 square metres in total. Designs must be created in high resolution and must be scalable without loss of quality.

Entries should be submitted as a flat image in PDF or JPEG format, along with a short written description of no more than 200 words outlining inspiration and how the design fits the brief. Entrants may submit mockups or illustrations showing how their design would look across the full hoarding span, but individual panels may vary in width and height, so designs should allow for flexibility.

All entries should be emailed to allaboutipswich@locusms.com and include full name, contact details, and any relevant links to previous work or portfolios.

What's next: All submitted designs will be reviewed and shortlisted by a panel, after which the final shortlist will be put to a vote by Town club members and season ticket holders. The winning design will be produced and installed by the start of the 2026/27 season.

The bottom line: With a £2,000 prize and the opportunity to see their work displayed opposite Portman Road, local artists have a chance to showcase their talent at a site that will be seen by thousands on match days.
